BLACK CAT won the ‘48 Hour Film Blitz’ category at the Brunei Film Blitz, Brunei’s first film festival; a challenge in which participants must produce a film within 48 hours. Adam and Liyana won the grand prize after dazzling audiences with their short film, ‘Black Cat’. ‘Black Cat’ details the journey of a girl living with an obsessive-compulsive disorder who, following a series of peculiar events, undergoes a shift in her life.
 
 

48 hour SHORT FILM competition

 

Under the 48-Hour Film challenge, participants must include the secret ingredients (film elements) featuring the festival’s biggest sponsors– Borneo Bulletin or Media Permata newspapers and the Progresif Radio mobile app. Organised by the Origin Artistics Management, with the support of Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Brunei Film Blitz aims to support aspiring filmmakers in Brunei Darussalam and is part of the month-long Brunei December Festival initiative.

BLACK CAT is a short narrative film of a young woman named LIA—taken out of her comfort zone after encountering a cat, she sets course on a peculiar behaviour transiting into a new person. The film details Lia’s journey living with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in her slice of life, a routine cut short after confronting a series of events that lead to self enlightenment, channeling her compulsions into a creative output.

The second film element; Progresif Radio App was introduced at the very end of the film - when LIA records herself playing the tune on the guitar, through the 'Open Mic' feature on the app. Here is where we see her character channel her compulsions into a creative output.
